Re: Main Spindle getting hot

Gilmer Belt is not slipping. When putting the headstock back together, I could not get the drive sleeve assembly in and both retaining rings, which I think is due to the bearings not pressed together tight enough. I needed 1/16 in or less for both to fit. Try as i might, i couldn't get them any clos...

Re: Main Spindle getting hot

Thanks for the reply, I will check that out. On low speed, if i rest my hand on the spindle it will momentarily stop spinning. When you say high speed alignment error, could it be that when I did my high speed adjustment I set the speed too high? Could the issue be too much tension or not enough in ...

Re: Main Spindle getting hot

I have a Gilmer belt. I did install the retaining ring on the spindle side. I had one retaining ring that I couldn't get back in on the gilmer side, I may not have gotten the bearings pressed enough.

Could the spindle assembly be slipping where it inserts into the drive sleeve assembly?

Main Spindle getting hot

Just recently finished a full tear down and rebuild of a mark v. Replaced all the bearings minus the quill bearing, waxed everything and rebuilt. Two things have happened. First, using the ss as a drill press, the drive shaft was pulled out of the headstock when a drill bit got stuck in a piece of w...

Re: Control Sheave Hitting Porkchop(Quadrant Gear)

$matches[2] This is the headstock, not sure what if its an "a" or "b" $matches[2] The drive sleeve does not spin true. But I haven't noticed that spindles spinning out of true when I turn it on. thumbnail_IMG_8096.jpg This is where the sheave is hitting the quadrant. The speed i...

Re: Newowner Informaton

Wasn't able to find a washer small enough to fill the gap between the washer and retaining clip. It was probably .010 in. Re-installed quadrant/speed control assembly and turned it on. The high speed stop was set so that the set screw was flush with the jam nut. I double checked that the worm gear w...

Re: Newowner Informaton

Thanks for the info Gents! Got it broken down and cleaned by following the Jacob Anderson videos. I ended up replacing the quill bearing, drive gear bearings, drive sheave and bearing, worm gear, quadrant. I put paste wax on the metal parts after I cleaned them. Last thing I have to do is put the sp...

Maintenance, speed control, headstock Bought a used mark v, 1979 was the year or manufacture I believe. I was trying to clean up the inside of the headstock and fix a sticky speed control and took the speed control off...not according to the instructions (this was before I realized the wealth of inf...
