Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Mark 7 with Free Shipping on ebay for $1500 opening bid. Couple of issues, from the description it says local pickup, it isn't a Mark 7, and you can't really tell what you're getting from the pictures. But at least a 505 with PowerPro, Belt Sander, and Jointer and all looks to be in good condition....

Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?

I've discussed it with my wife and she doesn't feel that any of them should use any type of power tool. I'll probably start by teaching them about the hand tools that I have, just need to do some upkeep on them so they work well (remove rust, wax, and sharpen various tools). I'll probably also hand ...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Here's a project 500 they're asking $300 for. Serial 347751. It's a greenie, but been kept in a pole barn so as expected a lot of surface rust.

Re: Shopsmith's new website is up....

I definitely like my grey 520 color scheme, but I wish it had more red trim to complement it. Of stock colors though, I have to say I think the Goldie and the other past variant color are better looking than this gray. Maybe do some pin striping on your 520? Obviously not on the ways, but on the he...

Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?

Thank you all for the great feedback. I'm long winded, so this will be a lengthy post. I suppose I should give a bit more background here. I've been building my hobby of woodworking over the years, starting actually before borrowing the MKV from a co-worker back in 2012 to create some nursery furnit...

Re: Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?

Yes...I would somewhat be the blind leading the blind, but not quite as bad. I probably have as much qualification as an instructor in a shop class as my middle school shop teacher had, with the exception of the teacher's cert. And by this I am in no way stating that the teacher's cert means nothing...

Re: Shopsmith's new website is up....

From what I remember, when the planer came in the box had a hole in it and was partially crushed. Inside the box, it wasn't just empty space, but it wasn't well packed either. There were the hardboard corner braces running up the vertical corners, and some kind of brown paper padding - more than jus...

Self-study guide as homeschool shop class curriculum?

I haven't really been through the self study guide, except to thumb through it on the model that was loaned to me 10 years ago, and then a few years ago when I got my MK7. Do you think the self study guide would make a decent start to a homeschool curriculum for homeschool students? My wife homescho...

Re: Shopsmith's new website is up....

What got me about the planer box is that it had pictures of the planer on the outside, so it was the box they invented it to ship in, but the internal material looked like it was packed as if you were to delicately place it on a store shelf, and not be handed off to a shipper. I always view what hap...
