Re: Drill Chuck key holder

To correct this, I pained a thin yellow strip on the ShopSmith chuck, and painted the tip of the chuck key to match. Then, I made a holder for both of the keys. The magnet was ugly but useful. I had a few scraps of curly maple and purple heart wood left over from a mallet I made awhile back. I did ...

Re: Band Saw Bird House

That is a neat bird house/project! Coincidently I am building bird houses right now and if I may, I might try this in the future. I have some small apple and elm logs that are from trees cut on our property a couple of years ago. I'll try to post pictures when I finish my current house. John I live...

Band Saw Bird House

Turning firewood into a Birdhouse. The birds are chirping away seems like a good time to hang a birdhouse.

Re: 2 Simple fun weekend peojects

I'd like to know more about how you made the one on the right. Did you spot the final form of that wishbone in a tree branch? I'm very impressed by woodworkers who have an eye for that sort of thing. Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid

I just thought of another issue. Studying the pic of your setup, it appears that the bit is climb cutting. I’ve experimented with both climb and conventional cuts on my CNC router. The best technique for me seems to be to do roughing passes with a climb cut, followed by a light finishing pass with ...

Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid

Very nice, how are you doing with the threads and chip out with that bit ? if it is excessive would a less aggressive bit make any difference ? As for chipout All my trials have been with the workpiece at 90 to the bit. I think my next try will be with the workpiece canted so only the face of the b...

It is a thread mill bit typically used in vertical mills.

Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid

That’s pretty slick! What’s the material that you’re threading? I understand that fine-grained hardwoods are best for threading. What are you looking to improve with the tweaks? If tearout on the threads is the problem, you could try stabilizing the wood prior to milling the threads, using multiple...

I like what you have done.
That's definitely on the tweak list.
