I warm the disk with a torch, with a paddle remove the used disk, spray the adhesive with WD-40, remove the adhesive, clean with acetone or spray electrical cleaner, remount a new disk and .... whalah!! I’m on my way!

Sir- I too had similar issues-
I disassembled the DC- cleaned all and then-
I spent some time sealing WELL the areas where the components are screed to get her.
After strips of foam seals, I sealed again with latex caulk.
Then a gentle “beating” of the shroud, a run through the washing machine.
And ...

I have used the conical disk many, many times.
As an edge finishing tool, it's unbelievable.

On oak, ipe, walnut, cherry.

To combat the sandpaper price, I use a Shopsmith piece as a pattern- spray adhesive and 12" disks from HF.

I'll add, a coat of shellac or two first- retards splotchiness that might occur.

Sir- set the table to 0 degrees. Set the knife and knife "holder against the fence so it barely touches the paper. You'll have success.

Sir- I have and use 3 conical disks and 3 flat disks. To remove Shopsmith paper-

I heat the disk -gently- with a common propane torch, slide a spatula between disk and paper, pull in the paper disk. The sandpaper disk removes- then, while the metal disk is still warm, I spray with WD40. WD40 gels ...

After hard glue removal-try(on a small area) WD40-it works on "stickers" type glue- used it to remove glue from plastic laminates- used on industrial signs etc.
