Lathe runout
While using the ShopSmith as a lathe with a SuperNova2 chuck and I am having a run-out problem. It only seems to be a problem when turning with the chuck. The example I have pictured is a 5" bowel with a hole that I sanded in one side of the bowel. On the oposing side the wood is so thin you ca...

Lathe tools
The best tools I have used on the lathe are built and sold by http://www.thompsonlathetools.com/. They hold an edge longer than any oyher tool I have ever used except carbide.
Shopsmith are good tools especially for the price.

I would only use a #2 Morse taper to a #2 morse taper adapter. I would not try to modify any thing to hold the #2 morse taper as vibration will make it loose and very dangerous. I have used this one at slow speeds on the Shopsmith as the WTTools store is nearby. http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/p...

Pecan wood is a close brother to Hickory. Very tough to cut and even tougher to dry straight. Hard on turning tools. Keep them sharp and/or turn green if you are going to turn. Limb Pecan wood is real tough to keep straight as lumber. I let it spalt and turn it into pens and other turning projects. ...
