Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!

Now Stumpy Nubs has weighed in on this matter...I particularly like his comments near the end regarding "veteran woodworkers". Great video, thanks for the link. Could not agree more with the need for education about saw use and safety. In this regard, every SS user should be familiar with...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!

RF Guy; Hate to see you go. I have no problems with any opinions that diverge from my own, short of those that promote violence or anti-social action. As has been said by other posters, being confronted with a different point of view can be an excellent prompting to re-evaluate one's own opinions an...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!

Up to this point, I have been following this thread without commenting, since I don't have the knowledge of either business practices or patent law that would permit me to contribute meaningfully. But I am interested in the subject, since I can't see how Shopsmith could re-engineer the Mark to compl...

Re: Dragged out a shopsmith

I think I’ll upgrade the quill to a two bearing unit eventually, it’s not a metal lathe, but there’s just more side to side potential for play in the single bearing than I’d like. ArcticShop; Upgrading to the two bearing quill is, IMHO, almost a "must" if you plan on doing any bowl turnin...

Re: Sharpening Guide

RF Guy; Thanks for those links. I had never encountered Ashley Harwood before. Judging from the photos, she is quite accomplished. I looked at the tools she has for sale and was interested to see that she is selling some "negative rake" scrapers. This is something else I have only recently...

Re: Sharpening Guide

Mike;
Thanks for pointing me to the 40/40 grind. In the article I mentioned, Mike Mahoney does refer to Stuart Batty. After seeing your post, I looked up Batty and I see he has a lot to offer. I appreciate the link.

Re: Sharpening Guide

Got to thinking about this old thread this weekend while doing some spindle turning and realizing I need to touch up my spindle gouges. Since I have the Fine Woodworking digital collection, I thought I would do a search to see if anyone had anything to say about free-hand fingernail grinding. Sure e...

Re: Cateract Surgery

Glad it went so well for you guys. The doctors are saying it is in the cards for me too, at some point. I have noticed that headlights at night are more of a problem than they used to be...partly the new blue lights and partly the old eyes. Hearing your stories about what an improvement the surgery ...

Re: Shopsmith Miter Pro

" the right angle center of the Miter Pro is adjusted snug up to the blade you will be using". ? ? ? I think he's talking about the alignment procedure shown in the manual Russ linked to. He probably meant to write 'right angle corner'. Exactly right. I guess I knew what I was talking abo...

Re: Shopsmith Miter Pro

Been working great on my 500 for years. It is a great jig. Just a couple of details you will need to attend to: Make sure the 500 is aligned as perfectly as you can get it and then take the time to make sure the right angle center of the Miter Pro is adjusted snug up to the blade you will be using. ...
