Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

Here's a little high speed changer action. The table is rumbling at 4...I'm missing some belt length so I'm not getting the full 0-5 range. At least I think that's the case.

Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

Absolutely, bonus points for multi coloured paint drips. ;) I think the 3/4 hp motor is a bit more rotund, so that may account for the difference in clearance. ;) Rotund is probably the more appropriate way of describing the motor, but seriously, there's more iron in this thing than a 1985 Oldsmobi...

Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

Exactly.

And this motor is a chubby bastard compared to the others I've seen posted.

It's not a lightweight either.

That was the first set up. The motor bottomed out on the table, but I might not have had it right, you know?

Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

Nice, and the 3/4 hp, dual voltage motor too., It amazes me that they all seem to acquire paint spots over the years I repaired/rebuilt a speed changer a while back, this is the thread. https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maintenance-and-repair-f10/10er-speed-changer-repair-t19855.html Multi-colored...

Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

The belts. Yes, I have to adjust them again. I bought 23, 25, and 26 inch belts. right now the 23 and 25 are on there now.

Also, aligning the pulleys was critical. Mine were way out of whack.

I'll make another speed changer video tomorrow if I have time; a high speed one.

Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

Nice to see your thread here. I look forward to following the restoration of your new prize. Isn't it amazing how well it runs still even after 67 years. It sounded great "purring" along going through the speed changes. I did notice the belt tension looked a little loose but that can be c...

Re: New to Me 10er Serial # 81734

I took it apart and cleaned it. There was about 1/16" of solidified grime on each end of the shaft and the center part of the pulley was frozen. A little bit of PB Blaster and a warm day freed the whole thing up in about an hour. A brass brush and some bronze wool cleaned it up right quick.
