Re: Build a sauna
The small outdoor saunas I've seen are just sheds made out of cedar. Seems like any set of plans would be as good as another for that kind of thing. If you want something fancier a website about saunas might be a better place to look. You are putting ideas in my head but I'm not sure there's room fo...

Re: Bandsaw: New style table vs. old style table?
Another iron table user checking in, haven't seen the need to upgrade either. There's no problem with the size. To cut large circles I just clamp a sheet of plywood to the table and stick some kind of pin in where it's needed. You can do the same thing for any object of an unwieldy size. Like Bill V...

Re: 2 holes on base beneath headrest lock lever
I suppose the holes might be the remnant of an idea to mount the base pieces, but as noted they don't appear on the other side and those base pieces are clearly designed for mounting on the steel legs. No doubt that plenty of people used those holes for holding allen wrenches, chuck keys, and i put ...

Re: Powering other tools with a Shopsmith
Not making up my mind at all but mounting that end of the base on the bandsaw cabinet and using a jack shaft seems to be the practical solution.

Re: Powering other tools with a Shopsmith
BTW, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the SS band saw. It is a great saw. Used one for years. Got a second one for parts and now have a 3rd and a power stand. The Delta has a 14" throat and it can be opened up to 12" depth. Do I really need that? No, but this saw was born in 1947, i...

Re: Powering other tools with a Shopsmith
Realize that the idler shaft runs 1.6x faster than the drive shaft. So at 'slow' the idler shaft is running over 1100 rpm. If my math is correct, in bandsaw speak that is over 4100 ft/min. The lower aux spindle is for the jointer only. It rotates 1.6 times faster than the upper spindle. You run a r...

Re: Powering other tools with a Shopsmith
I could use the lower auxiliary spindle. If I can mount the saw close to edge of it's cart to minimize the length of the connector it might be doable. I think that's still going to be at least 10 inches because of the extra distance the legs stick out. I was wondering about something similar but put...

2 holes on base beneath headrest lock lever
The last photo in this post shows one of the holes under JPG's hand. They are both in indentations in the casting.
Is there an attachment that mounts there?

Re: New to the hobby; looking for tips
Disclaimer: I have not tried the following, saw it online once, haven't yet found it again. The claim was that a fence causes tracking problems when resawing. The fence keeps one side of the wood from moving away from the blade while allowing the other side the freedom to move away from the blade as...

Powering other tools with a Shopsmith
In this case I want to drive my 14" bandsaw with a Shopsmith to take advantage of variable speed. (see note below) The bandsaw is too big to try to mount on the auxiliary tubes, it would end up with the table 6 inches higher than the SS bandsaw and aligning it would be quite difficult, it has a...
