Re: New owner, want to restore

I'm missing some parts for the table lock assembly and apparently one of those parts is not available from Shopsmith. Besides Ebay and Marketplace, do you know of anywhere else that sells Shopsmith parts? Or is there a workaround for part 166 (pinion lock)?

Re: New owner, want to restore

Gotcha and good point. I honestly am not too finicky. Most important is that it works as well as it should. Looking good is just a little icing on an already yummy cake.

Re: New owner, want to restore

Wow!!! That gives me some hope!

Ok - I'll be more agressive with the sandpaper. I've just been worried about taking off too much and ruining the flat surface.

Re: New owner, want to restore

I was able to get the buildup on the surface removed and some of the black stuff underneath using a soft wire brush then some 220 sandpaper. There is some pitting, but it is not too bad. Here's what I've got left...black "stuff" that appears to be in the machining grooves. Nothing I've don...

Re: New owner, want to restore

The bandsaw is working beautifully which makes me happy. Now, however, it looks like I need to work on the table before I can use the other accessories.

The table is quite corroded. What can I do, if anything, to get it back into nice, usable shape?

Re: New owner, want to restore

Good news is that I stuck the bandsaw on and hooked it up. Everything works great! I've got new blades ordered from Shopsmith. The tires are still pretty supple - not hard or cracking, but they are dirty. What is the best way to clean them up? Do they need to be lubricated or something? BTW, the use...

Re: New owner, want to restore

Its been a little while since I checked in here, but I'm glad I did.

Still can't get the dang things off, so I plan on setting the thing up for use and working on the accessory pieces in the meantime. I'll post as I get to it.

Thanks, everyone!

Re: New owner, want to restore

Maybe I'm missing something?

The set screws are out. Is there something else that I need to do, or should they just come off? AUGH.

Re: New owner, want to restore

So, I've used penetrating oil and evaporust and I cannot get these dang things to budge. I've tried gently hammering it (just enough to get it to vibrate) and nothing.

Could you explain this wedge method more clearly? I don't quite get it and I don't know what else to do.
