No, the lathe drive is just slid onto the arbor and clamped with a set screw onto the threads. The lathe drive doesn't fit on the spindle, and it looks like the arbor's threads were sacrificed at some point in the past as a workaround.

And no, I don't know if any Williamses on the west coast. The most famous Williams I know of was one of my grandfathers who was the PE coach at the local school, so everyone in town ages 50-80 remembers him.

I think you're totally correct. It appears to be a drill operated saw attachment. I had no idea what it was until you pointed that out. I don't think it has anything to do with the shopsmith, maybe just ended up in the box of pieces. The only marking is "Bull Tools".
