I agree steel or aluminum is preferable to any plastic.

Do you know the pitch and height for the Mark VII?
I measure my MVII rack at 4tpi.
As best I could measure the gear is 12 tooth, 1.165" OD.

Re: Parts section of 'improved' website

As with most technology, developers just cant seem to leave well enough alone. Example: cell phone apps especially. I cringe every time I am forced to update an app wondering what part will actually work worse than before. I am sure someone will say that this is done with progress and overall improv...

Re: Dado Washers

Thanks for the pics. Nice little dividing head. I've been searching for one myself, would prefer to not go Chinese. I bought a small import rotary table and it had over 20 thou run-out brand new. Pretty much worthless.

Re: Dado Washers

I can get Pictures of that. I made a head for the Shaper that holds the Gear cutter. Yes, please. So are you: 1. Grinding a custom cutting tool to match the module of the gear and simply down-feeding to depth for each tooth, then rotate the dividing head to the next tooth? (I have heard this is ver...

Re: Dado Washers

Here's my shaper. To be honest, wood working tools scare me more. My SS table saw especially. It sounds like an F-16 about to take off, and the whistle of the saw blade adds to the pucker factor. LOL :D

Re: Dado Washers

I'm interested to find out why the shaper is better than an endmill on a vertical mill with a motorized table. Is there less cost in the cutting tool for the shaper? I am by no means an expert, but my understanding is that gear cutters come in sets of 8 per diametral pitch, and each cutter is desig...

Re: Dado Washers

I have made gears on in with a Dividing head set up on the table. :) I know this is off-topic, but the dado washers didn't really impress anyone anyway, LOL. If you have pics of that gear making setup on your shaper I would love to see them, and know what dividing head you have to fit th...

I have one in my artillery also. :D
Yes, well, that makes two people left in the world with a metal shaper! Just kidding of course. A bit of an obsolete machine, but still very useful. I use mine a lot.

Dado Washers

I found these dado washers today at a flea market and thought they were too interesting to pass up for a dollar. I have a wobble and a stack dado so I seriously doubt I'll ever use these, but thought I'd share. Anyone have or use these?
