@billmayo - I love that compound carriage!

I know this is an old thread, but I got a 10 ER that I am thinking about using like this. I was thinking with it's cast iron head stock and heavier bearings, if I made a compound like that, It'd be good to go for light work at least.

I'd love to see more ...

I'd say with the rollers, you will need to keep them all moving together. that would be a lot of weight too...

I know it sounds weird at first, but... what about some kind of casters under it? Maybe the bottom could scoot out a hair ...

This motor is continuous duty and has the fins under a cover at the flywheel end.

It's just an idea. First I gotta get turning on this thing...

Why on which part, the motor or flywheel?

The motor because I might actually try to lathe some metals on this thing. I've heard the power is one of the short-comings of the 10ER as well.

The flywheel, I may remove because it might cause more stress on the machine if something went wrong.

I have done some blacksmithing and know how to harden and temper some steels. I do plan on doing that, just at this point, I have exactly 0 chisels or gouges.

What I need, at least, are the things to set it up as a wood lathe. The drive center and dead center as well as a tool rest. Then there is the issue of gouges ...

Sweet! It is really my style of machine. I love that it is from the period that the original inventor owned the company. It seems really well built.

Pisser is, I still need the centers for to use it as a wood lathe. Don't have the tool rest either...

Is that working?
