Re: Kreg bandsaw fence?

Ok, just found this conversation which is really useful: https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=13077

However, again the essential link for buying the longer extrusion is broken (I guess that thread is also 12 years old).

And I'm more confused than helped by the Sketchup diagram. There are ...

Kreg bandsaw fence?

I bought the Kreg bandsaw fence directly from Kreg for my SS bandsaw (the newer one with the larger aluminum table). I'm now seeing that there is a critical piece, a length of aluminum angle stock, that was included in the Shopsmith sold version that doesn't come with the Kreg version.

I've read ...

Re: Shelix planer head with only 40 knives?

Here is the conclusion:

Hello Steve,

Byrd Tool is unwilling to offer any compromise.

Given the circumstances, we would be prepared to offer you $80.00 off the purchase price as that is about all we make on this sale….

I said thanks I appreciated that and accepted the smaller refund. I actually ...

Re: Shelix planer head with only 40 knives?

Hi Hans,

Respectfully, I'd like to ask for a $187 refund. On your website, every 12" head that has 4 wings and 40 knives is $457 (I found one exception but that comes with bearings). For $644 I was advertised 60 knives and honestly I feel like it does make a difference. Whether that is correct or ...

Shelix planer head with only 40 knives?

I recently splurged and bought the Shelix head advertised here https://shelixheads.com/SHELIX_for_shopsmith_12_inch_Planer. Everyone who bought one on these forums was saying they were amazing so even though it was pricey, $640, I went for it. I also looked at the Sheartek heads which are about $150 ...

Re: Planing laminated boards with CF in between?

About why the blades are coming into contact with the CF at all, these layers are laid up vertically so the red heart layers are on the sides, about 1/2" thick each, with two maple layers in between, also about 1/2" thick each, for a total of 3 CF layers. The entire blank is 2" wide x 1.25" tall x ...

Planing laminated boards with CF in between?

I have a Mark V with the planer attachment. Recently I ground and sharpened the blades to like-new condition and they have worked great.

I'm making a new tiller for my boat where I sandwiched two layers of maple between two layers of red heart and I epoxy'ed all that together with a sheet of carbon ...

Re: Planer adjustment

Some googling and I've now learned this is pretty common and referred to as snipe: https://fixthisbuildthat.com/6-ways-to-reduce-planer-snipe/.

As that article outlines, is this just a thing you have to deal with or is there something about the shopsmith that makes this worse or gives me options to ...

Planer adjustment

I've recently rebuilt a Mark V mounted planer, sharpened the blades, etc. I turned it on tonight and I'm happy to report that it largely worked and I'm still alive!

However, I think I'm either not doing something right or it still needs some adjustment. The issue I'm having is that the start and ...

Re: Planer knives adjustment

There may be another option. Where are you located? Maybe someone nearby you could be of assistance.

I'm in SLC but honestly option b had enough upside to where I just went ahead and placed the order. I like the idea of being able to do the sharpening myself in the future and everyone here is ...
