Shopsmith as a wet grinder?

Has anyone tried using a Shopsmith as a wet grinder for sharpening, like the TORMEK system, and other clones? I have a speed reducer and several mandrels, so would need the stone, and make some jigs/fences. I really don't want another tool that takes up bench/shelf space, or to spend several hundred...

Re: Adapting Ryobi rails to SS. Alternative to 520 rails?

Thanks! Someone else has previously done something similar, but your system looks a bit easier to build. I inherited a 2nd BT3000, just built a "Frankensaw" (Two BT3000s side by side), and have an entire set of rails left over, as well as two sliding tables, fences, etc. Your solution look...

Vacuum or dust collector for power hand tools?

Advice and experience requested: I have a dust collector and a shop vac. For years, I have used the DC with the standing tools, and the shop vac with the power-hand tools (sanders, router, etc). I frequently have the DC running with the hose near the bench work to reduce dust, so both are running at...

Is your shopsmith older than you?

Wondering how many folks have a shopsmith older than themselves? If yours is older, by how many years? Any passed on from dad or grandad? Anyone have one from mom or grandma?

It worked!

I drilled and tapped a 1/4-20 nylon bolt just like in the above photos, and it took out the side play. Getting the other adjustments was a bit "fidley", but it is done.:)

Thanks again,

Got it! Time to drill & Tap

Thanks folks!

I suspected that mine simply did not have the adjustment, and you folks have confirmed it. I will be drilling and tapping in the morning. The side by side photos are a big help.

I'll let ya know how it works out!

Gratefully,

Seahawk

Bandsaw column-post side play

Hello, I am having difficulty adjusting my "new to me" bandsaw. When the column is locked in place, the column has significant side to side play. The manual on page 16 discusses adjusting the nylon screw, piece 65 to fix this problem. Illustration A-13. My saw does not have this nylon scre...

Paul, I concur with Pennview; use scrap wood guide block to keep your drill vertical and steady. An unsteady hand or a damaged bit are the only things I can think of that would cause your counterbore to be elongated. Twist bits are better for "construction" grade projects than "furnit...

HSS saw blade question

Howdy, Do any of you prefer HSS blades to Carbide blades? Just wondering if there is any reason to attempt sharpening all the HSS blades that came with my saw. I have switched to Carbide, and wonder if there are specific applications where HSS is an advantage? I have read numerous articles describin...

Welcome

Chris, The most important item is do not turn the speed dial when turned off . That can damage it. Good news is there are parts for virtually every repair if you have problems. My SS is a 1954 model, and I can still get parts from Shopsmith, as well as used. In general, if you are handy with a wrenc...
