Please also perform the fence alignment as Dusty suggested. I was having this problem as well as burning wood during cuts and found I was using excessive force to rip material (excessive force with any tool is always dangerous).

Aligning the fence did wonders!! Now I always have clean easy cuts ...

I have not adjusted the polydrive. I will look up that procedure and try that....I also need to clean & lube it as the first person stated in his response.

I found the statement in the shopsmith serial number site you referred to regarding the polydrive where it states:

"1960 to 1963 Brown/Gold ...

I can't find the adjustment procedure on your post Mike. Can you please tell me where it is?

When I am ripping wood using the table saw the headstock squeals and the blade stops.
This was a gradual thing.
It seems like the belt is slipping when under a load...and then the saw blade stops turning.
Would putting on a new drive belt fix this.
