Re: 510 to 520 upgrade?

I have a 1995 Mark 510 that I am considering upgrading to a 520. In your guys’ opinion, is it worth it? Can I’m just buy the 520 fence & table extrusions used & do it, or is there more to it than that? What would be a fair price to pay for those pieces used? I have had both. I prefer the 52...

Re: Used Power Pro Headstock

Now back to the Double Tilt: When the saddle joint is created in the user version of the double tilt, is the set screw the only thing keeping the pivoting point from falling away from the legs? I must not be seeing this correctly. I have seen a youtube video where a guy modified the pivot pin where...

Re: Is it worth it?

As I read all of the posts on this thread, and the other thread https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=32407 about the Power Pro, I began to strongly admire the longevity of the electric motors in the Mark V headstocks. I have had five Mark V's including my first one in the mid 1990's. Not one ...

Re: Used Power Pro Headstock

As much as I would like to have the Power Pro headstock, I can't really justify the cost to value benefit right now. I mounted my current headstock with the disk sander plate and manually turned the speed dial to low speed. No rattling sounds or binding occurred. I plunged it in and ran the speed d...

Re: Used Power Pro Headstock

I received an answer back from SS on the double grooved tube only option. Re: Used Power Pro Headstock

RF, you all just gave me information to think about. I kind of got excited about the pre-owned headstock, but later realized there was more risk to it than I first considered. You guys just talked me down. And then there is the wife's potential reaction for spending that much money. I used to listen...

Re: Used Power Pro Headstock

[/quote] Guess you didn't see my response on your other thread. I am repeating it below: Also, just to be put it into perspective. StriaTech makes the PowerPro guts, i.e. motor, motor controller/power supply, LCD display for Shopsmith. They sell these components to the general market, but they are n...

Re: Used Power Pro Headstock

According to all the evidence I have, the 520 has been used little. I would say the only things it may need is the two belts, only because they are as old as they are. I will be breaking it down this week. Then I will know if it has any other problems such as a bent pork chop. What ever it takes it ...
