Re: Band Saw Bird House
I like it! Keep it natural. I had a big old ash-borer killed ash tree finally uproot this winter. It was in tbe woods, but the tree crown fell into my front yard. After I cleaned up the brush and cut the firewood, the fresh-cut stump pointing at my house was a bit of an eyesore. I had a dim recollec...

Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid
Re plow cutting: Think about it(farming history might help). Back when I took machine shop practices(before acquiring my Goldie) it was climb/plow with climb being reserved for unique situations(it be hazardous). However insufficient tie down is hazardous either way with metal milling. That termino...

Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid
By 'conventional" thee be referring to plow cut? The article below has a pretty good illustration and explanation of “climb” vs “typical” milling/routing direction. In Fusion 360, Autodesk uses the term “conventional” instead of “typical”, and that does seems to be the more common terminology....

The wishbone shape is definitely unique, and very cool. What was your process for making it? I'm guessing that it involved a lot of hand-sculpting & sanding.

Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid
I just thought of another issue. Studying the pic of your setup, it appears that the bit is climb cutting. I’ve experimented with both climb and conventional cuts on my CNC router. The best technique for me seems to be to do roughing passes with a climb cut, followed by a light finishing pass with a...

Re: Jig for threading turned box and lid
That’s pretty slick! What’s the material that you’re threading? I understand that fine-grained hardwoods are best for threading. What are you looking to improve with the tweaks? If tearout on the threads is the problem, you could try stabilizing the wood prior to milling the threads, using multiple ...

Re: HDPE or Masonite for zero clearance insert?
I've used Baltic Birch for ZCI's in the past, back before you had to take a second mortgage to buy a sheet. Fortunately, I still have a decent amount of it on hand, and I've been told (at my local Woodcraft store) that North American mills are currently gearing up to manufacture comparable plywood. ...
