Re: Drill Chuck attachment help

Just dropping back in for a quick update. Thanks again to everyone who commented, it helped a bunch. Anyways I ended up deciding to just get an older used one off eBay, for only a little more than buying a bunch of adapters that would likely just be a pain to align correctly. The new piece fits grea...

Re: Drill Chuck attachment help

Of course as soon as I go and say I'll figure it out I have another question. Looking around the internet I see I can get a 5/8" shaft to JT3 taper, then get a 5/8" coupling and connect it up that way. (So it would be Spindle-->coupling-->5/8" to JT3 taper-->Drill Chuck) As I'm not we...

Re: Drill Chuck attachment help

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone's help. I'll update when I get it figured out, who knows when that'll be though, free time is hard to come by, haha.

Re: Drill Chuck attachment help

That is a beefy chuck. Does that spindle/shaft unscrew from the chuck? Or is it one piece with the chuck. Almost looks like a chuck for an old blacksmith post drill press. I have only tried separating by hand, not sure if it's screwed or press fit, it doesn't seem like it is one piece though. It lo...

Drill Chuck attachment help

Hello, I have finally gotten around to getting my shopsmith running and have fun into a small problem. The drill Chuck that was with it doesn't seem to have a way to attach. From what I can find it doesn't look like this is the original chuck but at the same time it looks modified to fit it as well....

Re: New owner questions

Oh wow, thanks for the clarification on the wax, that makes a lot of sense now. I’ll be sure to make sure I get the right kind now. I do live near the coast so it’s always humid, but not so much that it’s salty. I’ll still be sure to keep everything protected though, I’m well familiar with rust dama...

Re: New owner questions

Thanks for the responses! To answer Hobbyman, I hadn’t really thought about what to start first, but it is an important question to answer. I guess priority one is going over the headstock and tubes, as those are rather important. Then probably the table saw as that’s what I have been missing the mo...

New owner questions

Hello all! After putting my shopsmith search on hold for a few years, I had one unexpectedly fall into my lap at a great deal a couple weeks back. Naturally, it needs a little work, but does run and hopefully just needs a little TLC. I’ve looked through some of the amazing restoration threads, and w...
