For sale/wanted section?

Anyone thought about creating a for sale/wanted section on here? Would be nice to see if anyone else has spare parts for sale or if anyone is looking for odd parts and such. I’ve been looking for a 10 ER original bench, or a decent original set of legs with casters. I’ve checked EBay multiple times,...

Re: New guy, old machine

Is the IR related to the HP resistors required on the KB controllers? Can you tell me anything about how those resistors function? As for PWM, since I've been pondering using DC motors in a conventional Model 500 headstock I think it needs to maintain torque throughout the speed range since it is a...

Re: New guy, old machine

"IR"??? IR, Internal Resistance adjustments can be made on the KB electronics boards to compensate for the resistance in the brushes and commutator of any given DC motor, also as a motor wears the brushes and commutator resistance changes too. As uniform as motors are manufactured, there ...

Re: New guy, old machine

Have you considered a PWM controller or have any experience with them? Here's one from KB that costs a little more but will handle 3/4HP: https://motorsandcontrol.com/kb-electronics-8614-kbwt-16-0-130vdc-75-hp-chassis-dc-drive/ The advantage would be maintaining torque across the speed range, at le...

Re: New guy, old machine

Although I haven't considered putting a DC Motor system on one of my Model 10's yet, it is a very practical upgrade for one being used a lot. I have owned 24 Model 10's and restored 21 of them so far. 3 yet to finish and one finished 10ER being sold this week. I look forward to your progress. As JP...

Re: New guy, old machine

I’m curious, AmishMachinist. What do you see as the advantage of a DC motor and drive over a 3-phase Frame 56 AC motor, paired with a VFD? I haven’t priced that hardware in a while, but your budget would probably cover it up to 1 hp and maybe more, and you’d never have to worry about brush replacem...

Re: New guy, old machine

Ah I posted the wrong board, this is the one I’m using. It’s 3/4 hp, couple dollars more. https://motorsandcontrol.com/kb-electronics-9433-kbic-125-0-90vdc-75-hp-chassis-dc-drive/ These boards drive almost every machine I work on. So I’m very familiar with their setups. They actually don’t make much...

New guy, old machine

Hello, First time posting here. I’ve creeped through the forums, looking at rebuilds and ideas, figured I would finally join. I’ve had a 10 ER for about 5 years now, randomly learned about them when I stumbled across one on Craigslist, $100 later and I had a basic machine with a few attachments. I w...
