Re: Three-leg high chair / stool

I love the understructure — that’s a nice design and some fine craftsmanship. Making one of these has been on my bucket list for a while, and my workshop is currently stool-less. But my scrawny butt craves a carved seat bottom. The closer to a tractor seat, the better. Perhaps Roy Underhill would lo...

Re: Mark VII Motor Hums in Reverse

I’d be very cautious about using graphite powder inside of a switch. The stuff is both conductive and combustible, so you don’t want it anywhere that it could cause a short-circuit between conductors. Teflon spray would be much safer. But as teflon is an excellent insulator, you wouldn’t want to get...

Re: 3D printed axial cyclone for dust separation

I finally watched all three of those axial-cyclone videos, and the guy is a pretty entertaining presenter. I have a 3D printer, and have used it a lot. But the novelty has worn off, and I wouldn't be excited about printing for hundreds of hours to build those twin cyclones! The videos did get me cu...

Re: 3D printed axial cyclone for dust separation

I'll try to watch those videos this evening -- they look interesting. But in the meantime, this general subject was brought up almost 10 years ago, by a guy who wanted to mount a cyclone sideways in the dust-collection compartment of an old Mark VII. Per his request, I tested my ordinary Dust Deputy...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!

US patents expire 20 years (or less, in certain cases) after their application date (not issuance date). Should SawStop's original patents not be expired by now? No doubt they have others, but those would almost certainly contain claims related to secondary/detail issues, which cannot extend the pro...

Re: US Government is About to Change Table Saws FOREVER!

Drop the headstaock! :D Instead of stopping or retracting the blade, maybe SS could go with the impenetrable-guarding approach. This RAS at my local Big Orange could serve as an inspiration. It even limits the universe of RAS operations to the only one approved by Stumpy Nubs! Capture.JPG If you pu...
