John here is my suggestion: First make a trial door to see if it works for you] and also the hinges [/I]you are almost there. (if you want, you can wait to this point to mill that groove on the inside edge. You can either saw or rout the groove. This groove is usually 1/4" wide, but can be ano...

You will not have any expansion/contraction problems with the plywood. You can glue a frame around it with impunity.(that is not a glue!) Floating panels are only needed with solid wood panels. Rcartmetal Your right the plywood won't move but the solid wood he is planing to glue to it will. It coul...

I'm thinking about trying to upgrade some old 3 /4" plywood kitchen cabinet lip type doors by eliminating the lip and fabricating a 2" frame around them so they look more like a panel style. Since I'm not experienced at cabinet door making, I was wondering about problems with glueing a so...

Thanks! Ed in Tampa! Now I know! Have looked at the SSUG several times - referred there by Ed's (reiable) posts. This Forum is enough for me! I love this one, but I'm just not enough of a computer person to join up with any group that needs contributions. Already spend too much time on computer and...

I know that I am getting old and sometimes forgetful but I am having a hardtime accepting the fact that I can no longer locate the Shopsmith "Online Documentation". Can someone who has not lost it yet please tell me where that information can be located. Specifically, I am looking for the...

GOOD RECOMENDATION DUSTY! As just a user of SS equipment, I don't have many facts, but I do wonder - - Who is this Dr. Dave person? I've read his name several times sorta used as an expert, but am not aware of any of his credentials. Dr Dave is the moderator of the Shopsmith user group on Yahoo. He...

Thanks all. Ed has stated the issue better than I did. When I'm mortising a 3/4" thick stile, I use a 1/4" mortise that is centered, i.e. 1/4" from each edge. There isn't enough room for the mortise hold down and the mortise Chisel for both to "fit". I've included a picture...

Wow! You guys are great. As Ed correctly diagnosed, I had the lower guard slightly tilted. I moved it and the splitter fit perfectly. That was easy and I'm not sure I would have every figured it out. (Ed, your reply was so fast that I suspect you've done this yourself.) I haven't tackled the tilt b...

I've never been able to get the mortise hold down to work correctly on the 520 fence. The manual shows a fence with a single T slot (510?), but the 520 has two. The hold down won't reach at all from the far one and when used in the close one, it interferes with the mortise attachment. I've gotten b...

[quote="Greenvilleguy"]My rifing knife and upper blade guard won't seat properly. The table is too far forward to allow enough room to get the rifing knife in all the way. As much as I hate to admit it, I don't use it often] First go to this forum thread and read Nick's instructions on ali...
