Re: ShopSmith headstocks and Philosophy

Think of it like you would a restored classic car. Lots of new or newer replicated parts for classic cars nowadays. Maybe all the parts aren't original, but the body and motor numbers can still match.

Can you restore an original bearing when it goes bad? It's just a part that helps make up the whole.

Re: brownie refurbish

I think it's gorgeous, like the bench tubes better than painted ones.

You should be very proud of the acomplishment, as I'm sure you are!

Re: Local SS stray needing care

On the aluminum parts once you rinse them off and let them dry, I have had good results using Marvel Mystery Oil on a shop cloth and wiping them down to get a good bit of the oxides off. It's not too bad really. You can decide where to take the final finishing (polishing etc.) after that. Evaporust...

A machine shop capable of resurfacing flywheels may be an option.

Re: Local SS stray needing care

Here is the sad state the accessories are in. Accessories 1.jpg Accessories 2.jpg It's too bad people that have lost interest or uninterested inheritances could protect this stuff with little effort. If I were going to store something away outside for a long time, I would at least coat everything wi...

Re: Local SS stray needing care

I got the button and bearing removed with no difficulty. I cut the bearing off with a dremel disc. Just waiting on all the bearings for the unit, ordered last night.

Re: Incra TS-LS Positioning Fence

Thanks for the reply Ben, very helpful. I have decided to hold off until a few other projects are finished. In the mean time, I'll have more time to think about what I will actually need. That setup appears to be a real plus and compliment to the SS. Thanks again!

Re: Stand alone drill press

Amazon has about 14 customer reviews on this drill, not all 5-star, average about 3 star.

Many here have touted the 10er wall mounted making a good drill press.

I guess it may make a difference whether your drilling primarily wood or metal.
Even at the discounted price, still a hefty sum.
