Would like some opinions on this product. Any regrets, disappointments, or otherwise dissatisfactions with it?
Have read and watched videos on it, considering it. Need to decide by 11:59 EST. Of course I could always wait until next offering.

Re: Local SS stray needing care
This is my 2nd 1983 SS and they both had single bearing quills. One issue I'm comtemplating is replacing the control sheave bearing. It's small and "staked" to the sheave. Anyone here attempt it before? Mine feels pretty rough, so I really don't have much to lose. I have a HF press, so I'l...

Re: Local SS stray needing care
Hi all! Finally got the quill out of the headstock, soaked it for a week in PB Blaster and Evaporust. Had to take the headstock to work and use a little friendly persuasion with brass punch and hammer. It was really stuck in there. Obviously, the Evaporust takes all the black rust coating off the qu...

Local SS stray needing care
Picked this Mark V 500 up locally 2 weekends ago for $50. Just couldn't see it going to waste. Owner claims he bought it new around 12/93 and gave it to his father who didn't use it much. As you can see it has been neglected. Mark V pic 1.jpg Mark V pic 2.jpg Motor runs but quill doesn't turn, belt ...

Re: Bearings off ebay...
I personally have had excellent experiences buying bearings online. Not necessarily on Ebay, but a few reputable bearing suppliers. All the used SPT's I have acquired, I've treated to new bearings. Use a well known bearing brand and you can't go wrong no matter where you buy it. Many SS users may no...

Re: Grandson's shield
Very nice indeed! The only improvement I can see, is in the actual functionality of it. It could use the handle moved more to the right side and then a softer (leather) strap across from it. You slide the arm thru the strap and then hold onto the other handle. Thereby, in the natural act of "bl...

Re: Shopsmith Air Compressor System
[ If that is the case then it must have a crank shaft and case to drive the pistons and would require oil lubrication. I have never heard of a compressor that small that was a piston compressor. Even all the pancake compressors are diaphragm and most of the 30 gal and under compressors sold by ever...

Re: Shopsmith Air Compressor System
The early Magna compressor is a diaphram, but the later Campbell Hausfeld is twin opposing piston.

Re: Shopsmith Air Compressor System
I aquired the SS air system some time back. In all the research I did, it is my understanding that it is an oil less compressor. The electric version of this compressor is the PowerPal MT310006. There are a few model numbers close to this one that incorporate the same compressor parts. It's a hit or...
