Re: Many woodworkers are a lot alike

My main table saw (Ridgid TS-3650 with wings) Is this minute sitting there in its carefully chosen home has so much stuff sitting on it that if I had a bottle of water in my hand I might have to turn around a couple of times to find a place to sit it down. That is actually a bad example b...

Re: Going to gain a little elbow room in the wood shop

Managed to get 2 six foot circles cleared of crap that never should have been where it was in the woodshop. Makes me feel like I now need to hold a square dance. :D I'll clear 2 more tomorrow and I still won't have moved any of the stuff I spoke of moving in the first post. This afternoon...

Going to gain a little elbow room in the wood shop

This is a bit long... While many would think that my 1,500 sq. ft. basement wood shop is large it has gotten so full that I am down to several narrow paths through it. Just too many interest in one place, too much stuff.  Sadly my 36' x 50' farm shop (mechanics, metal working, weldin...

Re: GB vs GiB

A few may recall from earlier discussions that I became a computer geek (OK, I don''t recall us ever using that term back then :D ) back through the last half of the 1960's. The big advantage then was that there were only about 40 things you had to learn to know more than everybody else. :) One of t...

Re: Which woodworking tools should I buy first?

The first tool to buy is a good first aid kit... :D Everything else pretty much stops without a hammer. I have a few... Wood is kind useless unless you can make it into smaller pieces which calls for a saw of some kind. Then a plane and, and, and... From that point on there can be no stopping....

Re: New member here...

Welcome. One of the early things that you will notice about this group is the level of knowledge and willingness to help. The second thing you will notice will be how many of us will blow up your pictures and study your shop area down to the tiniest details including reading the labels on containers...

Many woodworkers are a lot alike

I was watching several U-Tube videos today about converting regular fluorescent lights to LEDs. There must be a hundred options... I have chosen "Ballast Bypass" bulbs but even there options abound. What was funny was that many videos were made by woodworkers and I watched about 6 of them....

Re: Some sad news...

There is a large Facebook group called "Workbench builders" with over 46,000 members that is over-flowing with new woodworkers, some pretty young. There are many things I don't like about Facebook but I find that Groups works well. There are a zillion of them on about any subject. There is...

Re: Covering machine

I cover mine with dust. :) I do drop cloth covers over sewing equipment. The sewing stuff will soon be moving out to another shop. There really isn't much dust and the shop is both heated and cooled. It is a basement shop and large enough (36' X 40' + plus a small separate closed room) that I think ...

Re: Shop Vac closing doors

We spent a couple of decades in the vac industry and this company, The Henry Company of Hammond IN was our most reliable wholesale vendor. They were / are both wholesale and retail. We could sometimes beat them shopping price but not on service and standing behind stuff. If we called an order in by ...
