Re: Molder Head Knives old/new

We recently discussed this in the thread linked below. https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/woodworking-tool-review-f9/ss-molding-head-and-craftsman-cutters-t23461.html You can still buy brand new knife sets set of the "old" style from Shopsmith. They are listed on the same page with the new...

Re: Production date of a miter grip?

I have several Miter Safety Grips. Older ones with Pat. Pending and others that are newer with the Patient Number. The Miter Safety Grip was a new invention made for and with the introduction of the Mark 5 in 1954. It is common for a tool or anything for that matter to be introduced and made availab...

Re: start capacitor

When you put the motor in the machine and it didn't work were the belts on? If so remove the belts and check the idler shaft and drive sleeve/quill assemblies to see if they are turning freely. If any of the bearings are bad it can put enough of a bind on the belts to keep the motor from running. Al...

Re: ER and mark V tools

Let me first add my welcome to the forum. In your first post here you mentioned that you bought a Model 10ER and you believe a Mark V. John and Ron have given you some good information on the Model 10's. Let's see if we can identify your other tool and if it is a Mark V or not. A Mark V or if before...

Re: How far back do the early Mark 5 serial numbers go??

Jpdalton asked this on April 30th Note: J your Mark 5 was made in April 1954 according to the monthly chart. He said I'm in the midst of a restoration/modernization project on Ser# 263705 - pretty excited to have a chance to work on such an early machine, a 1954 model based on the serial number char...

Re: Off for another adventure

farmer, Glad you were able to get the 10ER out of the corner and be ready for use again. I noticed something interesting in the picture. The bench boards have been remounted under the top of the metal bench ends instead of being over top of them. Was this done for a specific reason? Sorry I have not...

Re: Parts inquiry

As I said in the last line the Shopsmith Tips are my opinion and that includes the coupler acting like a shear Pin. I cannot say for a fact that I have read that exact statement somewhere. I base that on things I have learned about the Shopsmith and the hub design with rather small indents for the C...

Re: Model 10E for sale

Okay I need to answer a couple things here. The 2 parts still used today in the Mark V and Mark 7 that date back to the Model 10's are the Quill Return Spring and the rubber Quill Bumper Ring. John, You are more or less correct about the lathe centers but there has been slight changes in those. The ...

Re: Parts inquiry

If you are stuck you could try buying a used one. I do not recommend using non-OEM couplers found for sale online. I restore Shopsmith tools as a hobby than resell them. In the ad I include one of several Shopsmith Tip's I have written. Below is the one about couplers that explains my position. Shop...
