Re: Keep it or sell it???
Wow! How many years did it take before you could produce artwork like that? I have little to none artistic talent. My wife, who was born in Wales, wanted to carve Welsh love spoons. She took a course at the local Lee Valley store. She would find designs in books and on line and then modify th...

Re: Need Suggestions on making a display item
I kept reading, and rereading your post and kept thinking, "What birds is he talking about?" After opening your attachment they became clear. What program did you use to convert the image to an outline? All I did was open the jpg they sent me and place it on the desktop. Then after writin...

Re: Need Suggestions on making a display item
Hey Berry! So it looks like from my messing around anyway - that logo would be about 33"x33" square, and the "F" would end up being roughly 26" by 24" wide. So my scaling and yours seem to line up. It might be interesting to make a ~2.5 dowel that you can use to make t...

Need Suggestions on making a display item
I do volunteer work for a local non-profit. Each year they have an event to raise funds. The event entitled Power of the Purse includes an auction. The director asked me to make a display of their logo to use as a centerpiece. See image. So the display will actually have a real purse hanging off the...

Re: Jewerly Box - the good one & the fail
Very nice work indeed. As far as removing and re-doing the maple strip, how about using a small trim router or dremel type tool? Some cleanup may be required with chisels or knives to finish and get nice square corners, but a guided power tool may be more accurate for the bulk of the removal. It ma...

Re: Jewerly Box - the good one & the fail
The boxes are beautiful. I have never done inlay, but what are the two woods here in the “Fail” ? It looks like the dark wood is oak with a stain on it. If so, couldn’t this be oil or stain bleeding from the dark wood to the top of the light wood in the inlay? First thing I would think of is someth...

Re: Jewerly Box - the good one & the fail
Fail - I'm not completely sure if the maple was planed a little thinner at that end or I was pushing with more force or some combo....but it sure looks like crap. I think I'll try to remove it with a chisel but I've got to try and remove the string and replace it.

Jewerly Box - the good one & the fail
Here's a couple of jewelry boxes. I actually started these some years back. The one is pretty good and the other, last pic, is a fail. Can't figure out how to save it??? (The good one is going to be in a silent auction for the non-profit I do volunteer work with.) The plans for these were from Woods...
