Re: Help identifying parts

Definitely a Mark V 500. Often just called a 500. Almost all parts aside from the table systems are compatible across the line of Mark 500,505,520, and Mark 4 machines. Except for the conventional headstock instead of the PowerPro compatible with the Mark 7 as well. New parts are available from Shop...

Re: Shopmate 5 in 1 tool

The clones are largely compatible with Shopsmith machines, although minor differences are found. The main problem with them is the lack of quality. Good enough for an owner who didn't use it much if it came in good condition but I've heard stories about them never working quite right. Considering th...

Do you use a bathtub full of acid for tubes?

Greenie for sale in Northern Jersey for $150: https://newjersey.craigslist.org/tls/d/ ... 91975.html

Ad calls it a 'table saw from the 1960s'. If the first digit of the serial number is a '2' then it was made in 1954 or 1955.

Re: cleaning and preparing tubes for rebuild.

Penetrol isn't a filler but it will stop deep corrosion from getting worse. Wax will fill pits somewhat if you want a smoother surface.

Re: Shopsmith at Workbench Con 2024

Resorting to profanity to get attention belongs in a locker room not on a tee shirt. Shows quite a lack of imagination. IMHO HopefulSSer has it right. It makes a bold statement that this is not longer your father/grandfather's woodworking tool. This may not be an official Shopsmith slogan either, I...
