Looking for a tie bar and trunnion for a 500 table
In an earlier post (Main table difficult to raise and lower), I described how the main table of a model 500 was difficult to raise and lower. I found that the table posts were bent slightly and they weren't at 90 degrees to the tie bar or the table. I believe this misalignment caused the friction wh...

Re: Main table difficult to raise and lower
Update: In an earlier post I said how I had found that the table posts were bent slightly and they weren't at 90 degrees to the tie bar or the table. I believe this misalignment caused the friction when raising and lowering the table. Today, I attempted to straighten the posts. I clamped the table t...

Re: Main table difficult to raise and lower
Dusty,
here are pictures of how I checked. The part I was referrring to as the trunnion is actually the tie bar (part #151). You''ll notice in the close up photo that the square is not touching the post, meaning that the post is not at 90 degrees to the tie bar.

Re: Main table difficult to raise and lower
Upon closer inspection, I believe I have found the problem... I removed the table and inspected everything for dirt, rust, burrs, damage; nothing unusual. Not finding obvious damage, I suspected something may be bent. With the table upside down on my bench I measured the table support posts to see i...

Main table difficult to raise and lower
I have recently acquired a 1970's era Mark V with the 500 tables. I'm having difficulty raising and lowering the main table. What happens is this: If I start with the main table completely out of the casting that holds it to the way tubes, I have difficulty installing it. When I go to put the suppor...

Anyone upgrade their planer to a helix cutterhead?
Wanted to ask if anyone here has upgraded their planer with a helix cutterhead, and has it really made a difference? Was it worth the expense? I ask, because I currently use a DeWalt 12" planer that I've had for about twenty years. My jointer is a 6" Ridgid, which I've also considered gett...

Is Shopsmith customer service closed for the Covid?
I attempted to contact Shopsmith through the "contact us" section of the website with a technical question recently. I received an email saying that they have a new program whereby you can call in and speak to a technician for $19.99 and $1 per minute after the first 15. I called to ask if...

Bandsaw guide post loose side to side
$matches[2] I'm in the process of adjusting my bandsaw and I have some side to side slop in the upper blade guide post. What I mean by this is that if you were facing the saw as if you were cutting, the blade guidepost can be moved side to side. It will not move up or down or front to back. I've ma...

Are these Shopsmith accessories?
These pieces came with a MKV that I recently purchased. I'm not recognizing them, just want to ask if they are Shopsmith parts.

Re: Have to decide between Model 500 and 510
Thanks for the responses. I should mention, in addition to the Shopsmiths, I have a 15" floor drill press, a 14" Delta bandsaw, and a 16" homemade Woodgears bandsaw. I bought the Shopsmiths before I purchased/made these other tools. At the time the Shopsmiths were used for bandsawing ...
