Vibration - What's Normal

You may have more vibration than I do. I can not hear the miter rattle in the track. I do not see that it is rattling; it just moves ever so slowly. If I am actually using the Shopsmith I would never notice what I am attempting to describe. Other than lubricate it, I have no experience with the shea...

Vibration - What's Normal

It is difficult to debate and impossible to resolve in an online situation. If I could feel the level of vibration, I would take a stand. If Charlese could feel the level of vibration, he might reaffirm his stand. My Shopsmith may not be typical but I have some vibration. I just put my miter gauge i...

Belt Noise

I think that it is good for you to be willing to tackle a teardown and rebuild of your Shopsmith. Once done you'll know what makes that puppy work or not work as the case may be. However, I doubt that you are going to eliminate vibration. Very early in my Shopsmith experience I learned that you can ...

Belt Noise

Being an old belt that has been idle for years I would expect it to be a bit stiff and possibly dry. You may be getting close to a belt change. I would dress the belt first to see if that helps. My headstock runs warm. I recently reported a hot headstock here on the forum. Belt tension seemed to be ...

Those don't seem like long drives to me.

I have lived in Westlake Village and Mission Viejo. We drove that far for groceries. Back then gasoline was $1.35/gallon.

Replacing Switches

I think this will answer your questions: http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/SS_Archives/SS103/SS103_Replacing_Switch.htm The details are on the blackboard - items 1,2 and 3. Shopsmith now recommends a single pole configuration even though the switch is double pole. When I installed my replacement switc...

Shopsmith Customer Service - the Greatest

Then again, it might not have been Jan. The criteria you describe applies to all the ladies at Shopsmith (to the gents too but I think you'd know if it had been a gent).:) Thankfully, Shopsmith is still providing that sort of customer service! In times of financial crisis, service is often the first...

Ss 505

It is a 505r which I believe says it is a 500 with a factory upgrade to 505. It is not Brown/Gold or Tan therefore it is not likely an anniversary model. The 1 1/8hp motor was introduced in 1962. The poly-V drive was introduced in 1964. If you take all this information and your serial number to the ...
