Main Drive Belt

I have used link belts on my table saws for many years and was very happy with a lack of vibration when using them. Of course, I used machined pulleys which helps also. I always try something and if I am not happy with the results, then I may read the instructions. I learn by doing things and seeing...

Main Drive Belt

No!! Not long! How does that saying go: Pay me now or pay me later plus you will be doing a project when the belt quits. If you operate at min or max speeds, the belt will be pulled slowly into the center of the sheaves where it will hang and/or not rotate/destroy itself. I have been replacing the m...

Quill Play

Why are you concerned about the lag? It is not a metal lathe that requires precision. Runout is many times more important. Somewhere in a past post, someone, maybe Nick, said to put wheel bearing grease into the Drive Sleeve inside splines. Push the quill shaft into the drive sleeve until grease com...

Restoring Older Shopsmiths

The 1965 Pontiac really looks nice too along with the boat. I have been buying Shopsmith 500/510 pieces, putting them back together and selling them as completed Shopsmith 500/510s. I never did go with the crowd. I am now restoring a 10ER that is a better build woodworking machine than I had believe...

Removing Paint

You stated that when sand blasting, about getting down to the cast iron. The few 60s Shopsmith I have worked on are all sheet metal and aluminium castings. Where is the crack in the Shopsmith. If it is a headstock, I would recommend buying another headstock from either jacobvb or ruggs59 on Ebay. I ...

Woodworking/Shopsmith Videos

Hey guys, what he is proposing is already out there. Not only is it out there but it can be anything you want it to be. If you want to see more Shopsmith videos, ask them. That is the whole idea of the site "members supporting members". They will do the video if we want to learn it. Go to ...

500 compatible with ER

Sorry, it is not. Different leg sizes and spacing. The tubes on the ER (very heavy) are the same diameter 1 3/4" as the 500 but at a different spacing. The quill shaft is 5/8" on both machines. Bill Mayo I was wondering if anyone knew if the main table and carraige and the extension tables...

Latest SPTs on 10ER

The Shopsmith 10ER is an excellant woodworking machine. It is not a mistake to buy one unless you pay too much for it. It will outlast most of us reading this post. Since I have brought several 10 ER10s, I find the bracket listed in Ebay Item number: 250102698427 ($94.95 total) will allow the bandsa...
