Got it done. Piece of cake cutting through the tubes with my reciprocating saw with a new Diablo carbide tooth blade. I also did not take off the power head or carriage. I properly braced and supported everything. Worked fine. Amazing what taking off only 14" did for my shop space. Got my bands...

Dusty, as you state, disassembly would be the best approach; however, not sure I want to lift the power head off. I just may go that route, and take the tubes to a machine shop with a horizontal band saw to cut them for me.

Thank's again, John. I will go with the reciprocating saw, unless you have better ideas. Maybe a cutoff wheel grinder?

Well, I went and started planning the tube cutting, and something dawned on me. Wouldn't be easier to just cut the tubes at the other end from the hinge pin (will call that the "top end" when it is in drill press mode)? The upper tube brace on the "top end" comes off very easily...
