Re: Table flatness

Tabletop: The tabletop is the most important part of the table saw and needs to be absolutely flat in order to provide the most accurate cut. Most saws have a cast-iron table that has been milled to within 1/1000th of an inch for flatness. Be aware that this figure can be deceiving and that you need...

Re: Table flatness

At some point understanding spring back and what causes it will define how or if a table can be re flattened, from my own experience spring back is caused by the metal stretching, bending it back does not eliminate the stretch ,it can actually exaggerate it and at some point , unless it is re heated...

Re: Table flatness

Depends upon WHAT/WHERE the press is PRESSING. Bending/unbending ALWAYS has spring back. Yes, but this was A LOT! ----------------- I can not say I have ever seen a piece of metal remain flat once it was bent and straightened , even when heated . molecular realignment can be difficult . a machine s...

Re: cutting 2inch male and female wood threads

This thread (Ha!) jogged my memory. I was pretty sure that Roy Underhill in one of his books gave details on making a tap and die for large wooden screws, so I had a look, and sure enough, he devoted a whole chapter to the subject, covering both large and small sizes. Its Chapter Three in "The...

Re: cutting 2inch male and female wood threads

The Woodsmith video uses a 5 tpi acme all-thread rod. The router bit is a double-bevel metal cutting bit, which makes V-shaped threads; but I guess you could make acme thread by using some sort of slot cutter bit. Getting the right size would be tricky. Unlike V threads, where you can control the w...
