Grinder guard work in progress

Since I got my first ER I had been wanting to use grinding wheels on it. Because I have more arbors than I know what to do with now, I decided to buy some stabilizer washers from a radial arm saw and use one of my 5/8" arbors for grinding wheels. I bought two cheap outer (right side) grinder co...

Re: You should have warned me...

And here are the interesting arbors. I wouldn't be surprised if some or most of these parts are Craftsman, as there's a lathe faceplate and several chisels that are Craftsman. The threading is 1", 7/8, 3/4, and 5/8". The 1" arbor was partially threaded into the face plate that's pictu...

Re: You should have warned me...

I just finished work and was going through the box of parts to decide what to bring home. There's an interesting assortment of large diameter arbors and some sort of shaft adapter. I was mainly just going to get the speed changer off to bring home and clean it up, but decided I'll bring that and the...

Re: RE: Re: You should have warned me...

Replacing a broken Speed Changer has become very expensive. Unfortunately they sell for well over $100 at online auctions. That is the main reason I felt comfortable buying the ER I mention in this thread. I paid $130 for it and the furthest anyone had to travel was less than 5 miles. I haven't gon...

See, that's why I like this forum so much. I can just sit back and glean information and stash it away for future use.

Re: You should have warned me...

Skip's speed changer setup instructions say to put a thick washer between the speed changer and headstock. Would I still not tighten it with such a spacer in the middle?

Re: RE: Re: You should have warned me...

A word of caution re the 0-8 speed changer. I would simply refrain from going above 5. Check the sliding sheave. It should NOT have the step at the bore. The step prevents adjusting until the belt rubbed on the shaft. Never ever adjust the speed and allow the springs on the control screw to become ...

Re: You should have warned me...

It came with a GE 1/2hp, that swivels on its bracket. Bigger diameter than another GE 1/2hp I have. I've also accumulated several motor options. I have 2-3 motors about this size, several good treadmill motor options for when I attempt a variable speed DC lathe option, and one baldor 2HP 3450 rpm th...

Re: You should have warned me...

Since we're talking about addictions here... If I were to find a mark V and don't know what I'm looking at in pics, but know enough to at least pick out a 520 fence upgrade, how much would that drive the price up? That's assuming no other large attachments are included. Sent from my Moto Z3 Play usi...
