Great Idea or Just Madness...

I have an idea about storage for my ShopSmith related items. (Which are currently neatly but disorganizedly strewn about the shop.) I'm not sure if this is an excellent idea or sheer madness. I have started on a giant lazy susan cabinet. It would be about waist level in height, and no more than 44&q...

Re: SPT Cart from leftovers

Top heavy it isn't! Looks like it would be hard to tip. Nice job.

Re: shop built crosscut sled for ShopSmith

The base is 3/4" phenolic. I am not concerned with IT limiting the depth of cut, but I think I made the rear fence too shallow. Along with the T Track for the stop block, I have a limit of 1 5/8". Otherwise I will cut into the T Track. I am very fortunate with the shop area. It is an outbu...

Re: shop built crosscut sled for ShopSmith

The sled is just about finished. I got it dialed in using the 5 cut method and I am happy with it. The last thing I want to do is to dye the handguard portion a bright color such as red or orange. I made two shallow cuts into the handguard. When making a cut, my hands will be on either side of the r...

Re: Accuracy question

I performed the alignment as per the Owner's Manual, and a few YT videos. I did not check it with any verifying cuts as of yet. In building my crosscut sled, I needed to make two 1/8" cuts off of my fence (laminated walnut & maple) to get the proper height and to keep the laminations center...

Re: Accuracy question

Good point. I will do some experimenting with the table vs table + extension table. I suppose the "5 cut method" used on crosscut sleds could just as easily be done with the rip fence. I got off on this tangent by an interesting but unintentional shaving. I am currently building a crosscut...

OK - Sounds good. Promise me you won't tell Ms. Boler, my 5th grade math teacher!

Accuracy question

After aligning my Mk V 520, I felt good about the results. However, last night I needed to use the table saw to cut exactly 1/8" off of both sides of a workpiece, such that the piece was 1/4" shorter but my laminations still centered. One one side, I was just ever so slightly off (nothing ...

Re: shop built crosscut sled for ShopSmith

I blew a big chunk of the day due to Dr appt, so I came home early and got a bit more work done on the sled. I made the handles. After this it may be awhile before I make any more progress. I noticed two issues when drilling. One was that the downward force of the quill shifted the table position. S...

Re: shop built crosscut sled for ShopSmith

I've been working on it here and there. So far my dimensions are 28" x 18 1/2". I had to make three jigs before starting on this. Two came from Scott on My Growth rings ( the outfeed support and Jack The Stripper) and a ZCI. For that I followed Mike Young's video and made three blanks from...
