Re: 520 carriage lock wedges

To answer some questions: The reason for suspecting that mine are worn is due to the fact that they jam and need a whack to free them. At least two YouTube videos from well known contributors say that they are worn. I would not normally buy used wedges, but obtaining many Shopsmith parts in the UK i...

Heads up - Double tilt and lift assist

I just completed the Double Tilt upgrade on my MkV 520 with Power Pro, so I guess I can call it a Mk7. :) I also have the Power Pro Lift Assist fitted. I'd loosened the locking screw on the right side and was testing the tilt (not the normal drill press tilt) when I realised that I'd left the Lift A...

520 carriage lock wedges

I'm in conversation with an eBay seller, regarding 4 used wedges he has for sale. He's unable to tell me about any wear on them, probably because he's not familiar with what new ones look like, but he's been kind enough to send me some images. Can anyone please help me out, as I can't tell from the ...

Re: Urethane Tires and Sanding Discs

You may well be right. 🙂 I think the appeal of urethane is the lack of glue and the relative ease of replacement without a lot of mess. ISTR that in the heyday of orange urethane original Shopsmith tires, it was the thing to do, maybe pushed at us by sales promotions. As I already have a spare set o...

Re: Urethane Tires and Sanding Discs

I hope that the 'spare' set could last as long as the previous ones, which is quite a few years. They are very, very tight and I'm sure I can't fit them without hot water and dish soap, as per the instructions, so they don't seem to have deteriorated as much as the 1st set. Maybe it's a reaction bet...

Re: Urethane Tires and Sanding Discs

Thanks, that's useful. I'll fit the set of orange tires I have, as they're new and should last at least a short while. In the meantime, I'll search out the Bluemax ones. Not sure if they'll be easy to obtain in the UK, but there may be an equivalent. Possibly our UK Shopsmith supplier may have them....

Re: Urethane Tires and Sanding Discs

The tires are the bright orange original Shopsmith ones.

Thanks for the tip on the adhesive.

Urethane Tires and Sanding Discs

Hi all. I had issues with my bandsaw today. It was fine until I put a little pressure on the blade and I could hear something slipping and the blade was obviously slowing down, but the PowerPro was indicating full speed. On inspection, I found that both of the urethane tires I fitted some years ago ...

Re: Looking for inspiration

I only have one power station base which is for the ProPlaner and no room for more, but I'm trying to free up some space by removing or modifying an old router cabinet that now doubles as a cupboard. I have a wood base to hold lathe accessories, but of course they're not heavy. I also have two Shops...

Re: Looking for inspiration

I don't have a solution for you. I have similar issues as I age. Just this winter I moved my accessory storage shelf down from a position 4' up on the wall to a location 2' from the floor. This way I don't have to lift things so high to move them. Even at 2' it can be difficult for me so I have my ...
