Re: Need Table Insert for Jigsaw

First is it a Jig Saw made specifically for the Model 10E and 10ER or is it the SPT 18" Jig Saw generally used on the Mark series tools? Either way you will have to get a used one or replica since new parts are no longer available. There are some 3D printer users making parts no longer availabl...

Re: 1982 Jointer Reassembly

First make sure all paint is removed from the contact points. Especially in the tongue and groove side. You want to have smooth bare metal to bare metal. Use paste wax for protection and lubrication. If later it doesn't slide as well you can take it apart again and re-wax. It is only the one bolt th...

Re: Mark 5 bandsaw

I don't recall ever seeing patent drawings for the Bandsaw. From Everett January 15 2016 in a forum post. I just got off the phone with Shopsmith Customer Service and was told that the 2° Bevel was added in April 1984 to the upper wheel. Prior to that, they said they were flat like the lower wheel. ...

Re: Disc sander vs Belt Sander

Since you already have the Belt Sander - keep it. Selling it would, at best, get you half of what it costs new even though it is NIB. Later if you decide you want one you will likely end up paying what you sold yours for to get a used one or full price to get another new one. Buying a used one can c...

Re: Mark 5 bandsaw

One more thought. In the link Dusty provided. beeg said, You can check the cant by laying a metal yard stick vertically across the upper wheel and measure the gap between the yardstick and the lower wheel. It should be about 1/6". That gap would only be in Bandsaws made after April 1984 or earl...

Re: Sanding disc arbor question

With the introduction of the Mark V 510 and 505 with the larger table system came their Blade Guard system. It's design requires longer arbors than the Mark 5/V's with the original table system which became the 500. That Lower Blade Guard was made to be useable with the 12" Sanding Disk. Someth...

Re: Mark 5 bandsaw

First let me say Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. The "cant" Dusty is talking about is not on all Shopsmith/Magna Line Band Saws. In 1984 the 2° Bevel was added to the upper wheel. Before that the wheels were in line. That Bevel/cant was added to make them track better but earlier Band Saws...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Roy,

I doubt that it has a Planer with it and may actually be a Jointer. A common error in listings. Still if in fair condition should be a good buy. It would be nice if pictures were included in the ad. Since it says Mark 5 and not Mark V it is likely an older one - pre 1980.

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. The link Ron gave you references a lot of great information. One is where you can find a restored PDF version of a 10ER Manual. A direct link is below. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1p8_ycx_8A0OW1EVEpSUm9GMW8 It can also be found under the Maintenance and R...

Re: Sanding disc arbor question

I really cannot give an answer for that either. Like Dusty I usually have my sanding disk positioned next to the table rather than in the table slot. Doing that I really haven't paid much attention to setting up the sanding disk in the table slot. Shopsmith did sell a Disk Sanding Table Insert but a...
