Small mystery bearing?

I was doing a little turning on my 83 model 500 'B' head-stock. Advancing the speed as the wood was reduced in size, I heard a snap, pop, and the sound of a small piece of metal landing on the bottom of the motor housing. I have also.

I was also in Hawaii on Dec 7th, 1991. The 50th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. Attended a couple of the memorials and they all were very moving. Being an ex Sailor, it is near and dear.

I also "built" on similar to the theirs. I already had a dial indicator, and the Shopsmith Miter gauge. I found at HF a dial indicator magnetic base and combined them all together. With a little initial fiddling, the system works great, especially since I only need it once or twice a year.

I have the bearings on order and decided that if I am going this far in I should replace the original belts along with the bearings. Well went to Shopsmith .com a...

They say the memory is the second thing to go......That way you won't remember what the first thing was. ;) I do know that I say "It's on the tip of my tongue" a whole heck of a lot more than I used to.:(

I grew up on a ranch in Wyoming and remember that my Dad actually used a wooden wheel horse drawn manure spreader. He did adapt the tongue to be pulled by a tractor. As a kid of 7 or 8 I remember the tough part was to pull it real slow (yep he let me drive the 8N) cause it wasn't designed for anythi...
