Re: Mark VII a start and a long ways to go..

Hi Mike,
Glad to see your making progress on your MKVII restore, especially with the hard to find parts.
I'm happy with mine as it is (good cond and runs just fine) but I can't wait to see yours when it's done.

Re: Odd looking Shopsmith, any info?

Did an Arizona tour before Covid, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Sedona. Sedona is the only town we ever seriously considered moving to, it is stunning. If your ever in Cambria again stop by for a visit. WE bought in 2010 when prices were down. We got lucky. Now houses are overpriced and Sedona is ove...

Re: Odd looking Shopsmith, any info?

Looks like you've got a lot of good stuff with it. You have the rip fence ;good. The plastic rack (as much of it as I can see) looks good. The plastic speed cam looks good and is set to medium slow speed (good for testing the motor). The very tip of the cam is missing but not that important. Mine is...

Re: Odd looking Shopsmith, any info?

Hi Mike, I like my MKVII better than my MKV. I've attached some links to threads on more info and pros and cons of the MKVII. Some parts are interchangeable with the MKV, some are not. From the pic it looks like the start switch is missing. If it can be started, try to turn the speed sown to slow, t...

Re: How Do I Determine The Age of my Mark VII?

Here is a list of serial numbers and dates.
Hopefully someone will chime in on any accessories different from the MKV. I think most of them are the same as MKV.

Re: Make or Buy?

This may be too flimsy for your ceiling (1/4" thick) but it's a very good price. I used it for the walls of the sauna I built several years ago. https://www.menards.com/main/paint/paneling-planking/planking/1-4-x-3-1-2-x-8-beadboard-edge-v-premium-reversible-siding-planking-14-sq-ft-pkg/jk01ms0...

Re: motor amps ?

Here is a link to a post of someone restoring this RAS. There is a pic of the motor case opened up showing the motor and geartrain if anyone is interested. I'm interested, but this link doesn't work. - David [/quote] Sorry, I think this link works better. https://www.lumberjocks.com/KTNC/blog/122441

Re: motor amps ?

Well I just re-ran my 2x4 ripping test with a 2 ft long 2x4 and had no problems ripping with 2 different combo blades. Motor drew about 6 amps.
The only difference was that last year it was a full 8 ft 2x4; maybe it was binding and maybe I used a different blade.
So, I guess problem solved. :o
