The simplest(not the best I am sure) is to hang a mirror beside the saw so that the doorway is in your peripheral vision when watching the saw. A sawhorse fence outside the door when sawing, may deter folks ignorant of the danger. I'm looking for low budget ideas here!:) I just want to jump in here...

I am hoping this forum could help me out. Could you look at this add and let me know from the photo's how this looks. I have read most of the articles on purchasing a used SS. According to the owner he only has what is in the photos. I think it looks to be a 510 model, is that correct? The serial n...

I'm not a big fan of pre made plans... so if I were personally wanting to build a chair, I would either visit a museum or a furniture store...armed with my smart phone and a tape measure. I'd take the critical measurements and photos from every angle... then I'd sit down with a pencil and some graph...

I did this very same thing just a few years ago...even though our home was built in 1983. It all started because there were some loose tiles below the tub faucet...I was just going to take them off and put them back on. Well, when I numbered and removed the 100th tile (due to moldy wet drywall) I th...

Lodge pole...very nicely done! Its cool to see someone build the same project that I did. I used the same basic plans but changed it ever so slightly.... Mine does not have casters on it and the top is a solid core door... I also did not have a vice to add and made mine the proper height for me to s...

After reading all of the replies...I may give it a try if I run across a good deal. I have a few pieces that were given to me that I may make use of in some shop cabinets I want to make. I will probably use them as shelves. I can't see building furniture out of the stuff...but maybe use it for some ...

#1 Yep. #2 Yep. But, dados/rabbets and glue work well for joining. #3 Yep. Not a good idea to joint or plane anything with glue in it. #4 Nope. At least not carbide tipped blades. Cuts like butter. Benefits: Flat, good paintable surface, excellent pattern and jig material (not for hundreds of uses,...

has anyone else had problems with mdf?

I have had almost no luck working with the stuff... 1. I think it creates too much fine dust that is much harder to control than regular wood dust. 2. I haven't had any luck in joining mdf to itself. It doesn't seem to have any screw holding torque in the edge or face. Maybe I am just using the wron...

Keep in mind... there are no mistakes that can happen on a project....those are just reasons to redesign!

Personally, i would love to find a group of shopsmith lovers in my area... I think it would be great to have a shopsmith circle meeting if you will. Every couple weeks we meet at a different users shop...hang out..have coffee...talk shop and etc. I'm definitely a believer that you just cannot have t...
