To be honest I never paid any attention , to have them both rotating the same direction seems logical .

I do not have the same table and I probably do it wrong , 0000 steel wool , finish up with a good wax and a buffing wheel has worked for us . be sure to clean / wax the miter slots .

I don't have a drum sander and do not intend to buy a Shopsmith drum sander due primarily to its not being a standard size. This discussion sent me down a rabbit hole researching drum sanders. Take the chuck off and check the wobble of the shaft by its self , you may find the wobble comes from the chuck .JMO

Hopefully you have this repair made all ready . if you check with the local hardware store they should have everything you need . a old hardware / plumbing supply store should even have a replacement valve , usually less than 10 bks . IMO , if you add a micro bevel to your shop chisels you would need 2 angled blocks .
