What kind of chisel should I get?

I got two Robert Sorby chisels for Christmas- a 1/2" bowl gouge and a 1/4" bowl gouge. I want to do some bowl turning and I think I need some sort of tool to remove the wood from the center of the bowl. What kind of chisel should I get? Is it a hollowing tool? Any suggestions for a complet...

Routing hardwood

I used a new ½” shank Amana 2 ½” flush trim bit with lower bearing to route some Cocobolo (hardwood from Mexico). I had a pattern piece with 2 pieces of ½” Cocobolo attached using double sided tape. I band sawed the pieces as close to the finish line as possible. During the flush trim routing on the...

Today I re=drilled a Cocobolo pen blank using my SS 520 in the drill press mode rather than using my SS 10er. I secured the blank in the pen vise and clamped it to the fence. I used a sharp 7mm brad point bit. I checked the right angle relationship of my drill bit to the table--dead on. I took small...

drilling pen blanks

Drilling a hole in pen blanks has become a frustrating problem. When I drill a hole thru the pen blank, it starts in the center at the top but exits the blank off center at the bottom. I tried to turn the pen blank anyway but it usually blows apart at the very end of the turning process. Obviously, ...

oscillating drum sander

I'm considering the purchase of the SS oscillating drum sander (part #555754). I am interested in feedback from SS users who have used this accessory. Is it difficult and time consuming to set up? Does it work well, or how does it compare to stand alone oscillating sanders? Any and all feedback woul...

Good points, thanks all. I'll check the flatness of the main table with a good straight edge. I will also check the flatness of the sliding table which could very well be the problem as it has been dropped a couple of times I'll also run the SS thru the alignment procedures in the drill press mode. ...

alignment problems

I am having a terrible time getting my main table and extension table to be square and level in relation to each other. I ran thru the entire alignment procedure in the SS manual. I squared the main table to the blade, squared the miter slots to the blade, etc. Recently I was using the sliding cross...

Military service

I enlisted in the USAF in Feb 1967. I left the USAF as a Staff Sergeant, E5, in Jan 1971. I spent my entire enlistment in San Antonio, Texas. I was at Lackland AFB for boot camp for 6 weeks and earned the American Spirit of Honor medal. After boot camp, I collected my one an only travel check of $1....
