Shopsmith tools are too expensive

unless you factor in 1) maintainability, 2) quality and 3) availability of support. The very fact that you are talking about utilizing machines that are fifteen to twenty to thirty years or more old speaks for Shopsmith. The original quality is still there (or there wouldn't be a machine to talk abo...

On Line Catelog - Recent Format Changes

This is starting to look real good. The changesd and updates are fantastic. As was pointed out by bkhop, the annotations as which items are supported by Sawdust Sessions or Tips is really helpful. http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/productindex.htm The updated photos are also helpful; elimin...

You only need a few grains for this to work. If you get too much sanding grit in the glue, it becomes difficult to clamp the wood together and make a good glue joint. Somewhere between three grains and a dozen is just the right amount. With all good wishes, A small, small pinch applied very sparing...

The "No Slip Glue Tip"

is really neat. http://www.shopsmithacademy.com/Tips_Archives/SST113_No_Slip_Glue_Tip.htm Here in this part of the desert south west you don't even need sand paper grit to make it work. I keep a small cup of sand from the dry river bed out back on my glue table. A small, small pinch of river sand, a...

Online Catalog - "additions"

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll spend some time tonight checking it out. You know - Shopsmith seems to assume that we automatically find these innovations on our own. Just like they seem to believe that the younger generations, those who have never done woodworking and those who have ...

Shopsmith Mark .5

I started searching for the plans for the Mark .5 and along the way I found the train (which has also been featured on a Sawdust Session). :o At that point, I got side tracked - no pun intended. Bottom line - I forgot what I had set out to find. The search will g...

conical disc sanding

jfran2, Yes, you can sort of do the same thing with a flat disk but not near as well and certainly not as safely. Just stop and think about the machanics of this task. The flat sanding disk tends to pull the stock down against the table (on the infeed side) but then the stock passes centerline of th...
