Re: Australian 10E serial No 899
Dave, you asked I am not sure what the blue metal guard is for but it fits around the front of the quill. Do you know? It look like a lower blade guard. Can it be used with an 8" saw blade. That guard is different than the one sold as an option in the US. Below is a picture of mine. 162-1X - 12...

Re: SS Molding Head and Craftsman Cutters
All the older style Shopsmith/Magna Molder Heads have a set screw to attach it directly to the Spindle. I do not believe the new one has that and requires an arbor for use. From the picture (shown below) in the online catalog the new head has three holes through the face of it. None of the previous ...

Re: Cross-cutting multiple long pieces to the same length
I had suggested, For the 500 or 505 using a sliding crosscut table with the both boards clamped to it could work. Ed said, No can do with the 500, however. Likewise, I know of no way to use the cross-cut table for a bevel cut...the outboard end of the cross-cut table has to be supported by the exten...

Re: Does Size Matter - Arbors
As you know Everett has been working on restoring all the pre Shopsmith Inc. Mark 5 Manuals. I have many of the original manuals he is using. Below is a section of the parts diagram from the 5th Manual we believe is from October 1955. Note the stud in the center of the carriage backed by a nut to lo...

Re: Cross-cutting multiple long pieces to the same length
This makes me wonder about something I have thought about using a Mark V 510, 520 or Mark 7. How long of a cut can be supported on the floating tables cutting a 45 degree angle? So I just went out and checked. I set up my Shopsmith Mark 7 to do a 45 degree bevel cut at the right end of the way tubes...

Re: Does Size Matter - Arbors
The spacer ring is a convenience designed to make changeovers quicker. Without it you have to "manually" align the table and blade each time you change to the table saw. It is easier to do manually on the 510/505/520/M7 than the original 500 table system using the table post mounted upper ...

Re: Australian 10E serial No 899
A nice example of the Australian Shopsmith Model 10. I see the name plate of the Australian Company licensed to make them on the headstock. Since these were made after the Model 10's were 10ER's I have to wonder if Magna had a lot of leftover 10E nameplates and decided to use them up that way. 1953 ...

Re: Well Maintained Model ER
Your first picture made me wonder if you are trying to turn that board or drill a hole in it. As for " a good all around chuck " as you asked you will probably get many different opinions/answers. I have the standard Lathe Drive, Screw Drive and Face Plates for my Shopsmiths. If you want t...

Re: SS Molding Head and Craftsman Cutters
As has already been said there is more than just the old and new style heads. The first was the Aluminum Molder Head and Magna Engineering made two versions. One originally for the Shopsmith Model 10's (P/N 12 375) with a set screw to directly attach it to the Spindle. The other without the set scre...

Re: Stripped piston? Speed control
Before worrying about getting the clip on the quadrant as Ron noted above it may be best to remove the speed control assembly from the headstock for inspection. Checking the gears may reveal problems beginning like wear on the teeth. You said i have it partially taken apart and it looks like the rea...
