Re: The dog ate the mouse bait
Mouse and rat poisons won't harm dogs or cats. The most common rodenticides cause one of three things: internal bleeding, brain swelling, or hypercalcemia (high calcium level, which can lead to things like kidney failure). Keep mouse and rat poisons well out of reach of pets. Common Misconceptions ...

Re: Gluing wood: wood glue or hot glue?
I would sooner use a good CA glue before I would use hot glue on anything of aesthetic concerns. It can give messy squeeze out that can be an issue. CA glue is fast and neat. Titebond wood glue is even better, and honestly the initial clamp time can be cut to 15 minutes if the joints fit well. Just ...

Re: Wood Hardener
For Alumalite you need a pressure pot, not vacuum. The pressure compresses any air bubbles to the point of being too small for the eye to see. Interesting! I’ve just made pen blanks in flexible forms using the Alumilite and hadn’t used any pressure device. I’ve not noticed any bubbles, but that doe...

Re: Wood Hardener
Did you use a vacuum chamber? Makes a huge difference!. I don’t have one, but have seriously considered making one to use with Alumilite. I guess that the vacuum chamber is going to be bumped up on the list. CL had a paint pot for $25 but I’ve been looking at YouTube and figure I can build one from...

Re: Not Smart but Done
Thanks, Dick I believe it is put together correctly but lifting that headstock by myself was not wise. I have a hip and a knee that can give up on me without notice. However, putting it up on the extension table and then adjusting the carriage to lineup the tubes with the holes in the headstock wor...

Re: Wood Hardener
I’ve used Cactus Juice with good success, but it’s also very pricey at over $100 per gallon! 😱. A friend and I bought a gallon for a few projects we were working on. Mine was birch which had dried for a couple years and was beginning to get powdery. It soaked up large quantities! I also used it on ...

Re: slanted board for power sander
Just make sure the ring is secured with some double stick tape so it does not slip on the board. Also mark a registration point on the sled so that the subsequent rings have the same offset segment to segment otherwise your vessel will lean off kilter.

Swap away, no problem. Is the crack so severe that the headstock needs replacement? They are very resilient...
