Hi JPG, What size are the floor joists above? Noise can be a big problem depending upon what is just above the 'shop' area. You did not mention the source of the 'somewhat heated in winter'. If it is through the floor above, then using fiberglass bats for sound deadening would decrease that 'heat'. ...

The coil is across pins 2 to 5 (3.25 ohms) The switch is across pins 1 to 2 (zero ohms) I'll take your advice, for now cleaning it up and putting it back together is best.
