I'm somewhat the compulsive type so I'm trying to do my due diligence in researching the SS and the competition. It seems that the biggest complaint of the SS is the table saw. I guess I don't quite understand since it seems with the expansion tables you can work with a 4'8' sheet. If I was using a ...

Thanks for the information. I have the DVD on the way and can't wait to look at it. I understand from reading the other posts that a router is not the best option because of the slower RPM, so I wondered since I have a router but not a router table could I use the SS for my router table? Also the sa...

Even more questions. Would a 95 year model have most of the features of the new ones, especially the dust collector?

Does the SS have wheels so one could move it around, or are they available as accessory? For $1500 could you replace most of the functions with seperates and end up better off?

Wow, I've found three in my area. One is a 1995 Mark V and hardly ever used if at all and he wants $1500, another a few years old and wants $1,300 and another that has pics that make it look used but in "great shape" that wants $850. Sure appreciate all the input here. Not as bad as $3,500...

This forum is really impressive. Maybe a reason to justify the purchase of the SS alone! Seems like there's lots of help and I could really use it when it comes to carpentry/woodwork. I've found a couple of used SS 520's in my area that I'll look at, price in the $800 range. Don't know if that's goo...

Thanks for the quick reply. Now to confuse the issue, I just spoke with a gentleman, about our vintage, who has been woodworking for over 60 years and has owned a SS. His comment was, " they make a lousy tablesaw but everything else is ok. The two best times of ownership is when you buy and whe...

To buy or not

I'm really a novice at woodworking but would like to start getting more into it. Don't have any plans to build anything, only do home repair etc projects. In the past I've found from purchasing tools that sometimes you're better off just getting the best or you end up spending a lot more money upgra...
