Re: Today in the shop (what is that jig saw blade doing there?)
That is a picture that brings back memories. My first power tool was a jig saw that I mounted like that. I used that as a small basic table saw and scroll saw for a couple of years before I found a small table saw I had room for after I had moved out of the barracks. I found that the blad...

Re: Box for the ibox
Nice. I would drill a hole to stick the allen wrench in on one of the blocks so it does not rattle around and is always in one spot when looking for it. I always seem to misplace them.

Re: Drum Sander
I guess you have been to our naval base in Bahrain. I was there when I was TDY to Dhahran Saudi Arabia after the first gulf war. We used to drive from Daharan over the causeway to Bahrain. I bought a lot of gold in Bahrain and Saudi. The Navy also docks in Dubai UAE. Have you ever been there? I was...

Re: Drum Sander
I deployed to the UAE during the first gulf war less than 30 days after Saddam invaded Kuwait. We were issued real gas masks with the real filters, not the ones we used in exercises at home. Kind of made you think about things a little differently. I was off the coast for Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and ...

If there is a craft that she does enjoy now, figure out some simple things that she could make to go with that hobby. If she decides that she does not like it or not to do them but wants them, you can finish them relatively easily. Like all crafts there is a learning curve to woodworking and to usin...

Re: Best Off-cuts
I try to make my excess pieces as large as possible to allow more flexibility for future projects, grain pattern, color match or defects allowing of course. In your example I would cross cut first.

Re: Sharpening guide
From what I remember it was up to the end user on what they preferred to use. Mounting it to the auxiliary table required drilling holes in the table if I remember correctly. However, the use of the auxiliary table allows the piece being turned to still be mounted on the quill while sharpening the l...

Try looking on craigslist in the DC area, Annapolis, Baltimore and other areas around you to see what others have them listed for. Look under both Shopsmith and Shop Smith as sometimes they are only listed on one of the spellings. I have seen them listed for well under $100 up to over $1000.

Re: That table saw scarea the heck out of me
I got rid of my Skill table saw when I got my SS in 98 but if I remember correctly the table on it was smaller than my 510 main table. I believe it may even have been smaller than the 500 table but it would have been close. Even now if you look at the small job site table saws the tables are all sma...

I thought that you were supposed to stack all the boxes there and put the shelves on the opposite wall.
