Manual pages B 15

Hi! I’ve been searching through all of the posted docs here, and there are a LOT! (Thanks and a tip of the hat to Everett!) I can’t find a manual section that I once saw about assembling a new Mark V from the shipping container. As I recall, it was a Shopsmith manual with the pages numbered B 15 at ...

Re: The wisdom of the masses

Initially I tried turning tubes on a caster setup with the tube through the tail stink with Th center removed, but it was a bad setup for me. Couldn’t find any abandoned skate board wheels, so I rigged some sliding screen door wheels with o rings filling the groove. Bolted them to a board, and clamp...

Re: Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Swell deal in Punta Gorda on EBay-
$320 or best offer. SS Mark V Plus dust collector. Has full floating table system and two tubs of accessories. 24 days to go. I’d grab it myself, if I didn’t live 8 hours away!

Re: The wisdom of the masses

Your tube polishing looks great! I used a simile plug to clean up some really rusty lower tubes. I had some problems putting the threaded bolt end directly into the chuck, so I got a jam nut and a threaded connector to put on the threaded end and then into the chuck. Worked a bit better for me, and ...

Re: Two new project Mark V plus extras!

Hi! Thanks for the comments. I’ve been using pb blaster for the heavily rusted stuff, and I will definitely lubricate with 3 in 1 oil before I close the headstock up again. As for the casters, I measured the old shafts, the new shafts and the holes with a micrometer and test fitted one of the new ca...

Re: Two new project Mark V plus extras!

Forgot to mention that I was missing one caster. Grainier has some that fit perfectly for about 7.50 apiece. I replaced all four because they have a ball bearing and may differ in height slightly from the originals.

Re: Two new project Mark V plus extras!

Sorry, I still haven’t quite figured out how to post pics, but I’m posting an update. 1) Dismantled everything except the headstock. 2) Acquired missing nut and bolt replacements from Ace Hardware. 3) Evaporusted lower tubes in pvc pipe contraption. 4) Way tubes weren’t too rusty, so I just polished...

Re: Two new project Mark V plus extras!

Thank you, Everett! I already have a Mark V that only needed a little attention.
I’ll post pictures from my desktop later tonight!

Two new project Mark V plus extras!

Yesterday I got a Shopsmith lot from an estate sale on Craigslist. Pretty rough shape, but lots to work with! I got two sets of legs and tubes, two jointers, tables, a band saw, a jig saw, and assorted other bits. One intact headstock and the other is just a gutted casting. I already bought a lot of...

Re: Just Bought a Mark V

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I've got some ScotchBrite pads, and some paste wax, so I'm going to give it a try. I also picked up some bronze wool and wet sanding paper in case that doesn't do the trick. I'm going to clean up with mineral spirits and paste wax with Johnson's Original. I'll let ...
