In the dead of winter once I found that applying heat from a propane torch to the back side of the sander allowed me to peal off the sticky sandpaper very easily. It really didn't take much heat so I wasn't worried about warping the disc - after that I cleaned it up with some lacquer thinner and wen...

I'll bet the pre-heating in the oven might remove a lot of the finish. After that, smooth it all out with a Sand-o-flex (google it).

I know what you mean about a maze. I've got two SS machines - a 500 and a 520 and I keep them in my 12 by 16 foot shed along with two drill presses, two grinders, a planer, a performax sander, 2 cabinets full of hand tools, and a mini-lathe. With my limited space, without the flexibility of the SS I...

I suspect he is using gravity in the second picture (where the Wixey is reading 90 degrees). I use it to make sure the blade is 90 degrees to the table - the blade is steel so I zero it on the blade then use gravity to set the Wixey on the table and adjust it to 90 degrees. And if that doesn't work,...

Since we are fairly brand-name loyal here you might get attacked by suggesting such a thing :) however, one inexpensive way to find out might be to purchase the parts you think might fit via ebay - unfortunately many people part out their SS machines on ebay. Those of us loyal to SS think of this as...

I LOVE the 520! In addition to a better fence system that you can align on the machine (inlike the 510 fence where the aignment tightening screws were underneath the fence) I love the elimination of those little knurled knobs that you had to rotate left/right to tighten or loosen the tubes to hold t...

Oops - reverse the numbers. I was tired last night! Thanks for pointing it out. I also got a fairly nice antique rifle at the Hara Areana Gun Show and spent most of the evening shooting it so my sholder was tired and I couldn't type very well. Besides my dog ran away and my pickup truck broke down a...

I hope you enjoyed the sale as much as I did. Worty of note was the ability to buy separate parts - enough of the right pieces to convert my 510 to a 520 - all for about $50.00. Sure the pieces weren't wrapped in styrofoam and were a little scratched up, but who cares! Next year, when SS announces t...

I had a wobble and sold it because of the poor quality in good wood. It is fine for rough carpentry but for furniture making or small projects, I didn't like it. I bought a nice stacked set that has chippers with 4 teeth instead of just 2. I understand there aare sets with 6 chippers but they were a...

The thing is that any new video needs to have real value - it needs to go beyond the kind of things one might find in the instruction manual. I've picked up a few tips and tricks from surfing through this forum and that is the kind of thing I would spend $ for to get a DVD. I think I've got it figur...
