Re: Accessory Table problem

Chris, Maybe I need to include a photo. I got the table out by tipping the other end of the SS up. For grins I reinserted the the table until the edge of the legs HIT the holes in the base casting that attaches to bench tubes. I'm pretty sure no reasonable amount of paste wax and polishing is going ...

Accessory Table problem

I've got a SS model 510 purchased used that I upgraded to a 520 - if it matters. The problem is the extension table got stuck the last time I used the machine. It would go down but not up. A friend with a SS indicated he had the same problem and identified the locking mechanism as the problem. Well,...

Re: Shopsmith snubbed!

This seems to me to be a glass half full vs half empty thing, as opposed to a snub. I'd be really surprised if Woodcraft mentioned any product in their magazine that didn't advertise there. It's not like Woodcraft magazine is some neutral unbiased source of woodworking information, so do expect it t...

Hi Ed, There actually two programs out there that I've been looking at. Woodturner Pro has the other program. I own neither but i've looked at both and they each seem to have their own strengths and weaknesses. Of the two I liked the looks of the project planner best. My only advice is to look hard ...

Mike You can use any faceplate with a 1" by 8TPI internal thread by using the Penn State Industries L5818 adaptor. The faceplates with that thread are readily available at any woodworking store Bill V That adaptor should be handy with other lathe accessories, too including whatever chuck you b...

Actually the Teknatool (they sell the Nova brand) distributer is in Florida. Teknatool is in New Zealand. I've dealt with the distributer on some issues with my Nova SL DVR lathe (some technology that the SS Power Pro uses - digital variable reluctance). I'd rate them as very average in customer ser...

Mike, Before you buy a chuck, you might want to compare the the Nova G3 and the the SuperNova 2. The latter chuck should work on the SS with the right adaptor. The G3 is probably all you need with the SS but if you ever want to turn a larger bowl on a better lathe, the SuperNova 2 can move up with y...

If you're going to get serious about lathe work, you will out of necessity have to get creative about how you attach wood to your spindle to spin it. Faceplates (note the plural), a chuck and various jaws (note the plural), screw chucks, jam chucks, and vacuum chucks (not possible on the Shopsmith) ...

I have purchased 3 Shopsmith's. The first one was a 500 I bought new somewhere around 1978. I paid $999 then. A couple of years ago I wanted to upgrade to a 520 and found the upgrade too pricey. So I sold my Model 500 for $600, bought a nearly unused 510 for $500 that came with a bandsaw. I sold the...

What are the possible uses for an offset bowl? Is it just something to look at, like an art object? Is it just ...an art object? Perhaps, just like a symphony is just for listening.<g> Perhaps is it just an art object but I could see where the technique could lead to a way of serving salsa and chip...
